Temple offers eligible faculty and staff disability insurance for both short-term and long-term coverages. The insurance plan provides a level of income replacement, as well as continued benefits plan coverage, in the event that the employee become disabled and is unable to work.

Short-term Disability

Eligible employees may elect short-term disability (STD) plan. The benefit provides a level of income replacement due to an inability to work. If STD coverage is elected within 31 days of date of hire, there is no requirement to produce medical evidence of insurability. Election of this plan after the 31 days requires evidence of medical insurability. Access this form via TUportal > Staff Tools > University Forms channel.

Long-term Disability

Long-term disability (LTD) benefits provide a level of income replacement, as well as continued benefit plan coverage, after six months of an inability to work. Nonbargaining employees and law faculty may elect supplemental LTD disability coverage with the employee paying 100% of the cost.

If LTD benefit is elected within 31 days of date of hire, there is no requirement to produce medical evidence of insurability. Election of this plan after the 31 days requires evidence of medical insurability. Access this form via TUportal > Staff Tools > University Forms channel.

The LTD benefit varies, depending on the job classification and/or any applicable collective bargaining agreement in effect. Refer to the appropriate employee classification benefit synopsis for more details.
