All full-time students have the opportunity to purchase student health insurance at reduced group rates. There are three plan options offered by the University through Independence Blue Cross. The plans options are

  • Personal Choice High Option plan,
  • Personal Choice Deductible plan and
  • Keystone Premium plan.

Some student classifications are required to have health insurance coverage in accordance with Temple University’s student enrollment policies. Refer to Classifications/Enrollment Process for additional information.

The coverage period can either be 12 months (September through August) or 8 months (January through August). At the end of the coverage period, the insurance will automatically end effective August 31st and students MUST enroll at the beginning of the new academic year during the open enrollment period. During the open enrollment period, eligible students will receive email notification about student health insurance enrollment.

Returning Students

If you were enrolled in one of the university-sponsored plans during the Fall 2023, your insurance will automatically end on Aug. 31, 2024. You MUST enroll each academic year during the open enrollment period in order to continue your insurance. Refer to Classifications and Enrollment Information for additional information.

Monthly Premium Billing

Independence Blue Cross is responsible for generating and sending the monthly bill for the health insurance coverage. The bill will be sent to the address you provided during the enrollment process. You are responsible for paying the bill directly to Independence Blue Cross. For questions regarding your bill, contact Independence Blue Cross at 1-888-506-9611 or email templestudent@ibx.com.

Transparency in Coverage

The Transparency in Coverage Rule (TCR) requires health plans and plan sponsors to make in-network and out-of‑network machine‑readable files available to the public by July 1, 2022.
Transparency in coverage helps consumers know the cost of a covered item or service before receiving care.
