Adding or Removing Dependents

Employees may add or remove a dependent during the university's annual open enrollment period in June. Also, employees are permitted to add or remove dependents within 31 days of the date of a qualifying life event. The following are considered qualifying life events.

Hospital Announcement (Provide Social Security Card and Birth Certificate when received).

You legally adopt a child.

July 1, or date of birth, or first of the month following life event.

Social Security Card, Birth Certificate and Court Document.

Your legal marital status changes (marriage, divorce, separation or the death of a spouse).

July 1, or first of the month following marriage date, or first of the month following life event.

Social Security Card and Marriage Certificate, or Certified Domestic Partner form.

The employment status of your spouse, certified domestic partner or eligible dependent(s) changes.

July 1, or first of the month following marriage date, or first of the month following life event.

Social Security Card and Verification Letter from insurer regarding coverage status.
